Splitting the Scents from the Sawdust: Our Workshop Evolution

For a long time, Whiskey River Craftworks was running out of a shared double garage. It wasn't just a business space; it was a jigsaw puzzle of CNC machinery, fragrance supplies, and every personal item that usually ends up in a family garage. We were maneuvering around lawnmowers to reach our timber and trying to keep sawdust off the holiday decorations. It was a classic "hustle" setup, but as we grew, we realized you can’t blend premium fragrances in the same space where a heavy-duty CNC is throwing chips.

It was time to move the personal clutter out and give the wax studio room to breathe.

The Garage Triple-Threat: Scents, Specs, and Steel

Reclaiming the double garage wasn’t just about moving things out; it was about zoning the space so every passion had a home. We divided the floor plan into three distinct missions:

  • The Fragrance Studio: This is the heart of the "clean" side of the business. It’s now a climate-controlled, pristine environment dedicated to our scent libraries and pouring stations. No sawdust, no distractions—just pure fragrance chemistry.

  • The Overly Organized Garage: Let’s be honest—life comes with gear. We carved out a section that is now meticulously organized for the "normal" garage stuff, finally giving our personal items a place where they aren’t buried under CNC timber.

  • The Toy Box: This is where the vintage soul of Whiskey River lives. We finally have dedicated space for the fleet: Beth’s 1975 MGB and Shamus’s Honda Shadow. Having these beauties parked in a clean, organized shop instead of being squeezed between lawnmowers makes every morning in the workshop a lot more inspiring.

The Build: From the Dirt Up

While the fragrance studio took over the garage, we didn't just remodel a corner for the woodshop—we built a brand-new building from the ground up. Attached to the main garage, this custom shop was engineered specifically for our heavy-duty CNC operations and hardwood finishing.

It was a battle from day one. Mother Nature wasn't on our side, and we actually had to pull up and replace the floor twice after heavy rains ruined the insulation before we could get the structure dried in. Between the mud, the wet insulation, and the long hours, it was a test of will. And, as is tradition when building, the second we finished, we looked at the space and realized we probably should have gone ten feet bigger. But even with the "ten-foot regret," having a dedicated, purpose-built sanctuary for the sawdust has changed everything.

The Reveal: A Home for the Hustle

We didn't build these spaces because it was easy; we built them because our craft deserved a home. By finally splitting the "Scents" from the "Sawdust," we’ve given Whiskey River Craftworks the foundation it needs to grow.

Now, when you order a CNC-cut hardwood piece or one of our signature fragrances, you’re getting something created in a space built with literal blood, sweat, and rainwater. We finally have the elbow room to do it right, and we can’t wait to show you what’s coming off the machines and out of the fragrance studio next.
